What is a behavioural Problem?

Our pet’s behaviour can be challenging at the best of times. This is why it is so important that your pet receives the correct training it requires to live happily within your home.

Many behavioural problems can be avoided if we understood why our pets behave the way they do! This is why it is important to take our time to consider what type of breed of dog or cat that you want to introduce into your family and whether your lifestyle suits your pet.

Behavioural problems can develop due to many different reasons, such as genetics, early experiences, learned behaviours, lack of training and/or exercise, or rewarding incorrect behaviours.  No one pet is the same...even if they are the same breed or from the same litter.

The close bond we develop with our pets is sometimes the reason why behavioural problems develop.

Dog Behaviour Tips:

  • Don’t let your dog have access to all its toys. By rotating the toys, you will help to keep your dog’s interest.

  • Avoid using harsh training methods, this will not help your dog to learn.

  • Reward your dog’s good behaviour, with either a treat, praise or a toy.

 Cat Behaviour Tips:

  • If your cat has had a lazy day, make them earn their tea by playing chase with their favourite toy!

  • Cats need to groom their claw and scent mark by scratching. Introduce cat scratching posts around your home.
